This is the three times Irish Longboard Champion Long John Mccurry’s board of choice.
The board was already spot on and we’ve heard nothing but praise for it, but we’ve improved it anyway, because that’s what we do here at Westbay!
The original brief was for a light weight super strong board that worked with minimal effort in all surf conditions from small 2ft to heavy over head hollow waves, giving easy nose rides but to be loose enough to perform trickery, and to withstand, as much as possible, the punishment a committed surfer like John can throw its way.
So we took the much loved All-
The result a super performance board that glides like a hot knife through butter.
The rocker template and over all board shape being tested and developed over many years to ensure the board gives maximum performance and maximum fun in all conditions.
Just like all our eps/epoxy boards, this board consists of high density virgin eps foam, blown in Ireland exclusively for Westbay Surfboards to Westbay Surfboards specifications.
This foam comes in a huge block form, which is then cut at the Westbay Factory using our templates. The basic blanks are then split and after the 9mm wooden stringers have been cut and glued in, its all clamped up ready for profiling. Any off cuts and waste is gathered up and returned for recycling.
The final blank is then hand finished and checked ready for the fin boxes to be installed prior to the glassing stage.
Glassing is done with a diamond technique, using three layers on the deck and two layers on the bottom with a patch for the fin box area, on which note it is important to say that our boxes are actually bonded to both the foam and the glass giving the maximum strength available.
On completion the board is baked in our curing oven, after this its ready to surf!
